SUPPORT THE FOFIF IN THE CINEMA FOR $15,000

(New York): Support one screening for $2000, six screenings for $10,000, or the entire year for $18,000. (Outside of New York): Support one screening for $1500 or all four screenings for $6000. Support the entirety of FOFIF exhibition in-person programming in 2022 for $24,000!

We’re heading back to the space where we work best: the cinema. Throughout 2022 we will be presenting preview screenings, repertory revisits, and special curated screenings of films by women and non-binary filmmakers. This will occur at our monthly program at Nitehawk Cinema and at other locations in New York. Examples of upcoming screenings we’re working on are previews of BLACK CONFLUX (December 2021) and Erin Vassilopoulos’s SUPERIOR (February 2022) along with Joan Rivers’ THE RABBIT TEST (2022).

We are also expanding our exhibition reach in 2022 and you can help get us into other cities across the U.S. to increase accessibility. (Los Angeles, Detroit, Portland, and more)!

The FOFIF is uniquely focused on exhibition and on building audiences around the work of women and non-binary filmmakers throughout their careers. Within the larger movement for equity in film, our attention on what happens AFTER a film. You can help us increase the representation of women directed films to new audiences worldwide which is essential for achieving gender parity!

Since the pandemic, we have screened over 25 films and programs on The Future of Film is Female STREAMING to thousands of people worldwide. Even though in-person screenings are coming back, our goal is to continue to amplify these independent films in a space accessible to nearly everyone. Previous films have included TEST PATTERN, THE PLANTERS, MISS JUNETEENTH, DELPHINE & CAROLE, SONG WITHOUT A NAME, DEAD PIGS, AHEAD OF THE CURVE and YES, GOD, YES with short films programs with BLACK FILM SPACE and Dedza Films’ WHO WILL START ANOTHER FIRE?

Fund our VIRTUAL CONVERSATIONS

Support our conversation series to help create awareness and accessibility to independent film by women and non-binary filmmakers.

Our virtual filmmaker conversations and panels not only provide context to new independent films but they also allow for greater access to these filmmakers, their thoughts, and a larger understanding of the next generation.

These conversations center around new releases as a way to contextualize and promote new works. Previous panelists include Nicole Riegel, Ekwa Msangi, Maya Cueva, Karen Maine, Melina Leon, Callisto McNulty, Bora Kim, Amy Seimitz. We also present thematic panels to further unpack the cultural and social moment we are living in. A recent example is: THIS FILM KILLS FASCISM: FILMMAKING FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT with Peace is Loud and panelists Maya Cueva, Crystal Kayiza, Elizabeth Lo, Darcy Heusel and Opal H. Bennett (see image).

These conversations focus on women creating in the horror space to unpack how their perspective seeks to evolve, elevate and liberate genre films and beyond. Previous panelists include Karyn Kusama, Prano Bailey-Bond, Jennifer Reeder, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, Ashlee Blackwell, Mariama Diallo, Natalie Erika James, Nikaytu Jusu, Liane Cunje, and more. Partners include Nightstream Film Festival, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, Magnolia Pictures, and Indiewire.

Goal: 5 talks with 21 participants in total

We are a community of filmmakers but also editors, composers, film programmers, distributors, journalists, writers, and movie lovers and if there’s one thing we’ve learned in the past year it’s the importance of community. The work that we do to achieve gender equity in the film industry focuses heavily on building and fostering a healthy film community so that we can come together and build a more inclusive future. Our connective experiences include mixers, dinners, classes, works-in-progress screenings, and our free FOFIF Membership program.

Goal: 2 virtual, nationwide events
Goal: 3 in person events in New York
