Through animation, director Maya Cueva’s  father recounts his migration from Peru to the United States in the 60s, and what it means to grow old as a Latino immigrant in the U.S.

Maya Cueva received a 2020 The Future of Film Is Female grant for her short film, ALE LIBRE.


MAYA CUEVA is an award-winning director and producer. Her work has been featured on NPR's All Things Considered, Latino USA, Spotify, The Atlantic, Teen Vogue, and National Geographic and her films have screened at Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Hot Docs, Aspen ShortsFest, SXSW, Full Frame, Palm Springs International ShortFest, Vienna Shorts, and DOC NYC. Her sound recordist work has been featured in short films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and showcased on POV. Her short documentary, THE PROVIDER, won a college Emmy via the Television Academy Foundation in 2015. Maya’s first feature documentary On The Divide was a recipient of the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund, part of the Tribeca Film Institute, in 2019. She was selected to be in the Tribeca Film Institute/A&E StoryLab in 2020 and is currently a 2020 BAVC MediaMaker fellow.
