When you go out bush every week, you learn how to control your anger, and you learn how to control your life. - Dujuan Hoosan

ABOUT THE FILM…

In My Blood It Runs follows Dujuan, a 10-year-old Arrernte boy from Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in Australia. At the time of filming, 100% of the youth in Alice Springs detention centres were Aboriginal. Dujuan is a child-healer, full of life and exuberance he shares his wisdom of history and the complex world around. Yet Dujuan is ‘failing’ in school; facing increasing scrutiny from welfare and the police; and traveling perilously close to incarceration. A collaboration with Dujuan's family, In My Blood It Runs is an emotional journey through traditional culture, colonial ideas, and the people in-between.

Visionary in form, content, and process In My Blood It Runs was nominated for the Australian Academy Award (AACTA) for Best Documentary and Best Cinematography. The film premiered at Hot Docs 2019. The film’s main subject Dujuan Hoosan recently became the youngest person ever to address the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

To enact our appreciation of the film’s community based production and ethos of care, 20% of Sentient.Art.Film’s proceeds from the theatrical release will go to The Children’s Ground charity. The Children’s Ground is an organization led by the film’s advisors (who are also educators and grandmothers) working to prevent pathways to welfare and prison by transforming education and creating hope and opportunity.
