About the filmmaker: Born in Gary, Indiana, and raised in Long Beach, California, Britt Banks is an award-winning director and screenwriter, who credits her passion for filmmaking to her background in theater and performing arts. Through her work, Britt is committed to amplifying the voices of women and girls of color who grapple with adversity and unrealized potential. Her profound short film THICKE, which delves into the aftermath of police brutality, has garnered numerous awards and grants. Her award-winning short film BLUE LACES, was acquired by Magic Johnson's Aspire TV and has screened internationally at Academy Qualifying Film Festivals. In 2023, BLUE LACES screened at the prestigious Directors Guild of America during the Sista’s Are Doin It For Themselves Film Festival. She is currently in pre-production for her narrative short film, WE ARE NOT OKAY, supported by The Future of Film is Female.
